I am kind of ambivalent about this. One the one hand, it seems like a neat gadget. On the other, it does seem like a one-trick pony, as you mentioned – plus it seems a wee bit expensive if it is around $100. A WiFi Kindle is only $130 or so these days.

It seems like it might make more sense to simply make the Wikipedia content available for some of the major eReaders. Of course, i realize the makers are trying to make a profit on the thing, but as I said, it seems a bit too much IMHO.

How refreshing to read a short, but informative technology review. I liked your very good point about the unit not working automatically if connected via a hub, that will be really helpful to anyone else using this product.

Today’s common household batteries are not thought to pose as great a threat to properly equipped modern landfills as they used to because they contain much less mercury than their predecessors.

Disposable batteries are are commonly recycled. It’s just up to the user to take action in doing so.
